Thanks to Rob's mother, we have a great recipe and technique to work from with a little heritage thrown in. The main variant here is the type of apple.
HERE WE GO!
FIRST: We peel and slice the apples in our SUPER FANTASTIC OLD FASHIONED APPLE SLICER/PEELER THINGY!
I LOVE THIS THING...and Gabriel can peel the apples himself!
EVERYONE with kids should get one of these!!!
NEXT: Have child clean up shavings :)
THEN:
Mix dry ingredients together...sugar, cinnamon, etc...
Slice the apples in half and mix with lemon juice.
Mix in the dry ingredients...
Dump mixture into pie crust!
Cover with other pie crust...once cut with slits or cut-outs.
We have a lot of fun with this part. I also "paint' it with maple syrup and turbanado sugar. Then...BAKE!
Be sure to bake it a little too long...or you don't get that "burnt" crust :P~
We're still getting the hang of our new oven...but other than the "crispy" edges, it came out FANTASTIC!
mmm...pie...
PS: Honey Crisp Apple Pie = BIG WIN!
